RGB vs. sRGB Color

This page shows a typical texture map from our standard 3030/RGB scanhead and the new 2K × 2K texture map from a 3030/sRGB scanhead. Additionally, edited files are provided for further evaluation.

Photo vs. Color Map

Below you'll see a photo of our sRGB model on the left and a screen capture of the rendered model in the Plyview program. Note: The PLY file on the left has been edited to remove the subject's hair..

CPV vs. UV

In case you're not sure about the difference between CPV and UV color mapping, here's a summary that applies to cylindrical head scans:

CPV Mapping

This method of mapping the color texture onto the 3D range data is described as "color pixel per vertex". Basically, there is an RBG color value for each XYZ vertex in the geometry. This is the method that Cyberware has used since the scanners were created.

Pros: Cons:

UV Mapping

There is a UV coordinate for each geometry vertex, which references into texture map file. This method is very efficient for high-resolution color maps and lower-resolution range (3D) data.
