Software Demonstration

This document will guide you through the setup of the DigiSize software, installation of the sample database(s) and some of the basic operations within DigiSize. There are several sections in this guided demonstration of the DigiSize software and the sections should be approached in the order presented here:

Preparation

You must complete the software installation instructions before you attempt to work through this tutorial. Please refer to the appropriate instructions, if necessary:

Setup

In this step, you will launch the DigiSize software and switch into the Head & Face mode.

1. Double-click the DigiSize icon on the desktop. Alternately, you may choose DigiSize by selecting 'Start Menu | All Programs | DigiSize'. You should see a window similar to the illustration below.

2. If you do not see "PS (SCSI) #9999" at the bottom of the DigiSize window, select the Head & Face scanner:
1. Choose 'Scanner | Select Device...'
2. Click one time on "PS (SCSI) #9999", then click the Accept button.
3. You may be presented with an error message (pictured below). If you see this message, click the 'OK' button to proceed to DigiSize.

Project Manager

In this step, you will create a new DigiSize project.

1. Select 'Project | Manager...'.

The Project Manager window will now open.

2. Click the New button to create a new project. The project manager will expand to show details about this project.

3. Add information to the Project Manager.
1. Project Name:

For the purposes of this tutorial, enter Head & Face Tutorial.

2. Project Type:

Choose 'Head and Face' from the pop-up menu.

3. Company:

Enter your company's name here.

4. Location:

Type in the location (building / city / department / etc.).

5. Group Label:

Enter the label "Group".

6. ID Label:

Enter "ID" as the label.

7. Database Folder:
1. Press the Browse... button.
2. Navigate to the '...\digisize_databases\' folder.
3. Double click the Head & Face sample database, 'ps_cyberware_head_db'.
4. Click the Okay button to select this database.

8. Size Tables:

Select demo from the drop-down list, if it is not selected by default.

9. Segmentation:

Select NEW from the drop-down list, if it is not selected by default.

10. Printer:

Select NONE from the drop-down list, if it is not selected by default.

11. Scale:

Select NONE from the drop-down list, if it is not selected by default.

12. Naming Convention:

Select Standard from the drop-down list, if it is not selected by default.

The Project Manager should now appear similar to the illustration below:

4. Press the 'Save' button to save this project.
5. When prompted, confirm that you would like to use this project as the current project by pressing the Yes button.

6. Close the Project Manager.

Open Manager

In this step, you will work with the Open Manager.

1. Select 'Database | Open Manager...'.

The Open Manager window will now appear on your screen.

2. Select a file from the list, such as DBN #54 (the first scan in the list), then click View Subject button. The 3D scan file will open in the main DigiSize window.

Measure Form

In this step, you will work with the automated measurements in the Measure Form.

For more information on the Measure Form, please consult the Measure Form section of this user guide.

1. Select 'Measure | Form...'.

The Measure Form window will now appear on your screen.

2. Click the Select All button to select all of the measurements displayed in the Measure Form list.
3. Click the Calculate Measurements button.

The measurements will be performed and the statistics will be updated in the Measure Form window. You should see results similar to those below when the processing is complete:

Manually Pick Points

There are occasions where DigiSize cannot determine the location of a particular point in the dataset. When this occurs, you will be prompted to manually select that point. Below is a example of this procedure, using scan 72.

1. Select 'Database | Open Manager...'.
2. Double-click file 72.
3. Select 'Measure | Form...'.
4. Press the Select All button.
5. Press the Calculate Measurements button.
6. When the software encounters a problem, it will present you with the Pick Point (manual) dialog:

To manually pick a point, follow this procedure:

1. Hold the down Shift key, manually position the mouse cursor in the main DigiSize window, then click the left mouse button to pick the point.

If you are unsure of the location of the point, look to the middle of the Pick Point (manual) window for a description of the point.

You many also press the Definition button to get a complete definition of the point, including an illustration.

2. When you are satisfied that you have picked the point accurately, depress the Shift key and click using the right mouse button to accept the picked point.
3. Continue manually picking points until the measurements are complete and displayed in the Measure Form.
