Adjust the Home Position

This document provides information on procedures to adjust the home position of a USB-based Whole Body 3D Scanner (Model WBX).

This procedure is useful if there is excessive noise in the data due to reflections from the subject platform or if the subject's feet are not captured because the scanheads are too high above the subject platform.

Operational Notes:

The range of motion for Cyberware Whole Body 3D Scanners is limited, so you should first attempt to adjust the level of the subject platform. This simple fix is completed by turning the subject platform feet in order to raise or lower the subject platform.

When scanning during this procedure, use the scan settings that are typically used by the scanner operator (Pitch & Length).

The changes to the scanner variables in this document are permanent and will be saved to the EEPROM chips. Once this procedure is completed correctly, there will be no further need to execute this procedure in the future.

Pay special attention to the values on the two sliders in the Motion Platform Home window. These numbers must be equal or the scanner will be out of alignment. This situation is very difficult to diagnose and will require that you reload the scanner configuration from saved files (see step 3 below).

Procedure

  1. Power on the scanner, if it is not currently.
  2. Start the scanning software (DigiSize/CyScan).
  3. Save the scanner's current configuration.
  4. With your mouse cursor in the CyScan window, type this key combination:
  5. CTRL + SHIFT + u

This key combination will activate the hidden 'Utility' menu.

  6. Choose 'Utility | Motion Home Position...'
  7. [Utility Menu]
    Utility Menu

This will open the Motion Home Position window:

    [Motion Home Position]
    Motion Home Position
  8. In the Motion Home Position window, set the Motion: dev_m0 slider on the left to -1 (to lower the scanheads. Use a positive number to raise the scanheads). You could also set the slider to a larger number for a bigger move, but note that smaller moves will render a more accurate adjustment. All changes made in this window are cumulative.

  10. Set the Motion: dev_m1 slider on the left to -1. It is important that values of both sliders, dev_m0 and dev_m1, match.
  11. [Motion Home Position]

  12. Verify that both sliders have the same value.
  13. Press the Save Changes button to save the new values to the scanner's EEPROM.

  15. Click the Yes button when asked to confirm the changes.

  17. Click the Yes button to home the scanner, when prompted.

  19. Close the Motion Home Position window.

  21. Scan a subject using your typical scan settings.
  22. Evaluate the captured data, then repeat this process until the noise from the platform is gone and/or the subject's feet are completely captured.
  23. Exit CyScan.
