PXU Color Map Adjustment

Procedure

  1. Verify that the calibration cylinder is still situated in the center of the field of view and directly below the centering guide.
  2. In the main CyScan window, click the Scan button.
  3. [Scan]
    Scan
  4. Turn OFF the scan head view buttons for camera 0.
  5. [Scanhead View Buttons]
    Scanhead View Buttons
  6. Select the Shaded Textured Surface button in the CyScan window.
  7. [Shaded Textured Surface]
    Shaded Textured Surface Button
    IMPORTANT:
It is important that you use only the sliders that are discussed in this procedure. Modification of the remaining sliders is not necessary, and may make the color alignment process extremely difficult.
  8. Activate the main CyScan window by clicking on it with the right mouse button, then enter the following command to enable the Utilities menu:
  9. CTRL + SHIFT + u

  10. Select Utiliity | Texture Controls... from the menus.
  11. [Utility Menu]
    Utility Menu

You will be presented with two (2) Texture Resampling dialogs (one dialog for each scan head).

    [Texture Control] [Texture Control]
    Texture Control: tr0Texture Control: tr1
  12. Find the dialog labeled Texture: tr1.

    Texture Controls (Head 1)

This control panel is the interface to all of the color mapping controls. The pertinent controls are explained below (for a more detailed description of the various controls in this window, please consult the reference section of this user guide):

    IMPORTANT:
It is important that you use only the sliders that are discussed in this procedure. Modification of the remaining sliders is not necessary, and may make the color alignment process extremely difficult.
  14. Set Scale M to zero (0), if needed.
  15. [Texture Controls (Head 1)]
    Texture Controls (Head 1)
  16. Set Move M (frame) to zero (0), if necessary.
  17. [Texture Controls (Head 1)]
    Texture Controls (Head 1)
  18. Adjust the rotational alignment using the Move M (degree) slider:
  19. Adjust the sliders listed below in order to get the best mapping of the color texture along the vertical (up/down) axis. After each movement of a slider, use the Process button to see if your changes are acceptable. Use very small changes until you are comfortable with the adjustment procedure.

    [Texture Controls (Head 1)]
    Texture Controls (Head 1)
    1. The Move M (degree) slider controls the up and down movement of all three (3) color channels; Red (R), Green (G) and Blue (B). Be careful to NOT use the 'Move M (frame)' slider.
    2. Press the Process button to reapply the texture map to the polygonal data with the new parameters.
    3. [Texture Controls (Head 0)]
      Texture Controls (Head 0)
    4. Repeat this step until the color map is in alignment with the polygonal data in the vertical direction.
    5. Press the Save Changes button to commit these changes to the scanner's memory.
    6. [Texture Controls (Head 0)]
      Texture Controls (Head 0)
  20. Adjust the horizontal (X) mapping using the Move N slider:
  21. Just like the sliders above, use the Process button to verify that you're moving the texture in the correct direction and receiving appropriate results. Also, use very small changes until you are comfortable with the adjustment procedure.

    [Texture Controls (Head 1)]
    Texture Controls (Head 1)
    1. Move the Move N to a higher or lower number to adjust the color mapping along the X axis.
    2. Press the Process button to reapply the texture map to the polygonal data with the new parameters.
    3. [Texture Controls (Head 1)]
      Texture Controls (Head 1)
    4. Repeat this step until the color map is in alignment with the polygonal data in the horizontal direction.
    5. Press the Save Changes button to commit these changes to the scanner's memory.
    6. [Texture Controls (Head 1)]
      Texture Controls (Head 1)
  22. Adjust the X-axis "stretch" using the Scale N slider:
  23. Very little, if any, adjustment should be needed with this parameter. Be very careful when adjusting this value, as very small changes in the value can cause extreme changes in the way that the color maps to the object.

    [Texture Controls (Head 1)]
    Texture Controls (Head 1)
    1. Move the Scale N to a higher or lower number to adjust the color mapping along the X axis.
    2. Press the Process button to reapply the texture map to the polygonal data with the new parameters.
    3. [Texture Controls (Head 1)]
      Texture Controls (Head 1)
    4. Repeat this step until the color map is in alignment with the polygonal data in the horizontal direction.
    5. Press the Save Changes button to commit these changes to the scanner's memory.
    6. [Texture Controls (Head 1)]
      Texture Controls (Head 1)
  24. Sometimes, further refinement of the variables is required. Repeat the steps in this procedure as many times as necessary to correctly map the color onto the range data.
  25. Quit CyScan.
  26. Launch CyScan (this will read in the new color mapping parameters).
  27. Take a scan with the following settings:
  28. Texture:HiRez RGB
    Arc:360°
    Pitch:0.70°
  29. Select Shaded Textured Surface from the CyScan window and verify the new settings for this scanhead.
  30. Verify that the alignment is also correct by taking scans in RGB and Lores RGB modes.
