Head & Face Color 3D Scanner (Model PX) Assembly
Please read the Site Preparation section of the
Digitizer Operating Manual and the
Platform Placement section of this user guide
before performing the scanner assembly.
Platform Placement
To accommodate movement, the digitizer requires a circular area that is 1.8
meters (6') in diameter.
The platform should be placed on a solid floor. A soft, yielding floor may allow movement that will result
in inaccurate measurements or motion problems. Padded carpets may need to have
holes cut to allow the platform feet to contact the unyielding sub-floor.

| WARNING: |
| Many of the parts
described herein are very sensitive; care and proper equipment should be used
to put them in place. All of the parts contain either carefully aligned or
sensitive electronic assemblies. Take extreme care not to damage or jar the
systems. |
Cyberware recommends that you keep ALL of the shipping
boxes and packing materials that came with the scanner. These are useful if
you should wish to move the system or store the system for an extended
period of time.
Required Parts:
Refer to the Head & Face Scanner Parts List
for a complete breakdown of the required components.
Procedure
- Remove klimps and lag bolts from the crate front and crate sides.

| PX |
- Remove crate front and sides.
- Remove power supply platform and contents, then set these parts aside.
![[PX]](images/px_assembly-002.jpg) |
| PX |
- Remove box containing Standard Test Object. Keep in safe place for later use.
![[PX]](images/px_assembly-003.jpg) |
| PX |
- Remove red toolbox and store nearby for the remaining operations.
- Remove Motion Arm from crate:
- Prepare a 1m × 2m (3' × 6') cushioned area on the floor. This will be used to
place the Motion Arm in a safe place before it is attached to the Motion Base.
- Remove the tie-down straps, then carefully extract Motion Arm from in
between the Motion Base legs.
- Set Motion Arm on cushioned area for later assembly.
- Remove the Scanhead/Scanhead Arm assembly (with Shipping Arm) and carrier box from crate:
| WARNING: |
| Do not remove the retaining bolts or straps from the Shipping Arm. |
- Remove the strap that clamps the upper arm/motor assembly to the shipping tongue,
bolted to the scanner frame. Raise the wooden arm support by loosening the four bolts
that clamp it to the main part of the carrier, then pushing it up 50 cm. Tighten the
4 bolts so that the arm is raised above the shipping tongue.
- Remove the strap on the carrier box and the (2) hex bolts that hold the carrier
flap to the crate using a 5/16" wrench.
![[PX]](images/px_assembly-008.jpg) |
| PX |
- Lift entire carrier with the Scanhead/Scanhead Arm assembly out of
the crate and place in a safe area on the floor. The flap on the shipping crate should be
flush on the floor to prevent the assembly from tipping over.

| WARNING: |
| This is a very sensitive piece of equipment. Take great care in all procedures. |
- Remove the Motion Base from the shipping crate:
- Remove the eight (8) nuts from the 3/8" carriage bolts and four (4) base straps using
the 9/16" Combination Wrench.
- Place the Motion Base very near to the final installation location, leaving room to
move around the Motion Base for the remaining steps of these assembly instructions.
- Remove the shipping tongue from the frame.
- Motion tower installation:
- Gather the following tools and hardware for use in the following steps:
- 6mm Allen Wrench
- Ten (10) M8×25mm Socket Cap Screws
- Ten (10) Flat Washers
- Ten (10) Lock Washers
- Place Motion Arm flange onto Motion Base flange, aligning the studs on the Motion Base
with the clearance holes on Motion Arm.
![[PX]](images/px_assembly-012.jpg) |
| PX |
- Install ten (10) M8×25mm socket cap screws, with one flat washer and one lock washer on each screw,
into flange holes opposite of the studs to secure the Motion Arm to the Motion Base.
- Tourque the bolts to 80 lbs/in in a star pattern.
- Install the remaining four (4) M8×20mm socket cap screws with a flat washer and a lock washer
on each screw.
- To finalize the Motion Arm installation, torque the bolts to 130 lbs/in using star pattern.

| WARNING: |
| Do not leave Scanhead/Scanhead Arm assembly unattended during this procedure.
One person must steady the assembly at all times. Two other people should manage the Scanhead/Scanhead Arm
assembly. |
- Attach the Scanhead/Scanhead Arm assembly to the Motion Arm:
- Gather eight (8) M8×25 socket cap screws and the 6mm Tee Handle Wrench and place them
near to the Motion Arm Hub.
- Two able-bodied people should now move the Scanhead/Scanhead Arm
assembly to a location directly below the Motion Arm.
- Lift the Scanhead/Scanhead Arm assembly into place under the Motion Arm
and "hook" it onto the guide.
- Insert four (4) M8×20 socket cap screws into the Scanhead Arm Hub screw holes and
tighten until the screws are 1/4 of a turn from snug. Use a star pattern when you insert
the cap screws (similar to tightening lug nuts on an automobile wheel).

- Insert the remaining four (4) M8x25 socket cap screws. Tourque bolts to 80 lbs/in in a star pattern.
- Torque all eight (8) M8×25 socket cap screws to 130 lbs/in using a star pattern.

- Insert the Subject Centering Device into the bottom hole in the Scanhead Arm Hub.
![[PX]](images/px_assembly-024.jpg) |
| PX |
- Remove the black vinyl dust cover.
- Remove the shipping arm by removing the five (5) 1/4" hex bolts from the plywood arm clamp (Figure 29).
- Place the PX Floor Mat on the floor. There are cutouts on the sides of the mat that are
meant to slide around the front feet of the Motion Base.
- Place the Subject Chair into the cutout area in the middle of PX Floor Mat. The
Subject Chair must face away from the Motion Bower.
![[PX]](images/px_assembly-031.jpg) |
| PX |
- Place the Power Supply Platform near the rear Motion Base foot.
![[PX]](images/px_assembly-032.jpg) |
| PX |
- Place the Power Supply onto the Power Supply Platform.
- Connect all cables:
- If not already in place, secure the 4-Port USB Hub to the top of the power supply unit.
- Run the short (20") USB cable from the 4-Port USB Hub to the power supply (AC power cord side).
- Connect the USB cable from the Motion Base harness to the USB Hub.
- Connect the long USB cable to the hub, then to the host computer.
- Connect remaining Motion Base harness connectors to the power supply unit.
- 9-pin Encoder cable
- Scanhead Power
- Motion Power
- Home Switch
- Connect cable harness to the top caneras (0/1)
- Scanhead Power
- USB
- Lights, if not already connected
- Insert the AC power cable into the power supply.
- Connect the AC power cable to a surge protector, then plug the surge protector into
an AC power outlet.
- Level the scanner. This is accomplished by raising or lowering the three leveling feet
on the Motion Base using the 5/8" - 9/16" Open End Wrench. It is best not to over-extend
a leveling foot, rather lower the other two feet. For convenience, a bull’s-eye level is
mounted next to the vertical post of the Motion Base.

- Tighten the jam nuts on the platform feet to lock the scanner into position.
- Continue to install the Cyberware software on the workstation according to the
software installation instructions.
