This manual explains techniques for setting up and using the Cyberware 3030/MS scanning system and scanning software on a graphics workstation to scan objects linearly or cylindrically. Common applications for this process include computer-aided design and object analysis. It is assumed that you have read the Scanner Operating Manual and are familiar with the operation of the scanner hardware and the graphics workstation.
The frame of the MS platform is roughly triangular in shape, with the scanner mounted on the right angle corner facing the hypotenuse. It requires an area over 2.1 meters (83 inches) wide and 1.3 meters (51 inches) deep. A location should be chosen that will allow the operator enough room to stand in front of the platform (the hypotenuse) to set up objects for scanning and on the left side to adjust the height of the digitizer head. A shelf is located under the linear table for placement of the power supply.
The platform provides a steady place for the object and moves it cylindrically or linearly at a constant speed. It should be placed on a solid floor to ensure accurate measurements. The platform itself is very heavy so that accuracy is maintained.

The height of the scanner can be adjusted by using the lever located on the left side of the digitizer head as viewed from the platform. Pull the lever toward the platform to release the brake, then raise or lower the head as needed. The weight of the head is counteracted by a heavy counterweight.
The large red Emergency Stop button on the front of the platform is for quickly stopping all operations (e.g. your tie in the linear track or the object is about to fall over). You can also stop the motors by force, but it may take some effort.

| Once you've pressed the Emergency Stop button, you must press it again to release it and resume using the platform. |
There may be occasions when you will want to move the scanner a short distance for purposes of floor cleaning, redecorating, or rearranging the room. If you do plan to move the scanner, be aware that the MS platform is very heavy and is only movable using a pallet jack. It also may be necessary to place wood spacers on the jack to reach the bottom of the crossbeams of the MS motion platform. Before moving the system, check to see that no cables or cords will need to be disconnected. If you need to move the system large distances, please contact Cyberware Support for specific instructions.
The only scheduled maintenance needed for best operation of the platform is lubrication of the lead screw (the large threaded rod that turns to move the table linearly). This should be done once a year. First place the dust cover on the digitizer head to keep lubricant off the optics, and then spray the screw lightly with silicone. Sending the platform through the motions of several linear scans after the spraying will help distribute the silicone.
