Biographical Sketch

David Addleman is the President and co-founder of Cyberware. He created the software that supports the 3D digitizing process and jointly holds several digitizing-related patents. He manages the company's research and development activities.

In 1995 he and Lloyd Addleman, his father, received an Academy Award for the application of the Cyberware 3030 3D Digitizer to special effects imagery in Terminator 2: Judgment Day and The Abyss. He has appeared on many television news programs to explain Cyberware's work, including CNN, Good Morning America and the Discovery Channel. Wired magazine once certified his true personality in the article Geeks Storm the A-List (Wired, October 1998 p153).

David's 25-year background in software engineering has included work on the Unix kernel for various companies and contract work for the US Air Force and the City and County of San Francisco. The latter involved development work on the computer controls for the city's rapid transit system. He started with Cyberware at its inception in 1982. He met his first computers during a year at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

Current Activities

These are renderings of sample datasets from the Whole Body Scanner. Other than some filling of holes in shadowed areas, we did not do any hand modeling of these polygonal body models. Decimated, smoothed and converted using various Cyberware software tools. Compositions and renderings in Softimage. The goal is to discover what tools are needed by animators to ease the use of whole body scans.

Away from Work

While not at work David is most apt to be found somewhere around Monterey Bay or Big Sur with his 9 year old daughter Chloe.. They live in Monterey. Whenever possible he prefers to be eating healthy food, drinking a fine ale (which mostly cancels the healthy food), riding a bicycle or sailing. David also enjoys sleeping, however complete satisfaction in that endeavor has been elusive. His current position as Race Chairman at the Monterey Peninsula Yacht Club has significantly impacted his preferred recreational activity of leisure sailing. His pretty friend Betty, a racing sailboat, provides great fun for her team while occasionally winning a race too.
