LN Assembly Instructions
Platform Placement
Please read the
Site Preparation section of the
Digitizer Operating Manual and the
Platform Placement section of the User Guide
before performing this assembly.
The frame of the LN platform is rectangular, with the digitizer mounted on the top.
Fully assembled, it weighs approximately 50kg (110 lbs). The track is available
is a variety of lengths, with the entire platform being 20cm (8") longer than
the track. If placing on a table, the table width should be at least 40cm.
(16") for the digitizer, plus room for your objects. A location should be chosen
that will allow the operator enough room to stand in front and set up objects for
digitizing. To avoid contact with those not familiar with the equipment, as well
as reflective distractions, the laser should not point out into a room.
Provide a sturdy table or base for the objects and platform. The table should not
move in the slightest while the digitizer is operating. The base should be placed
on a solid surface to ensure accurate measurements.
WARNING:
While Cyberware recommends that assembly be performed by a factory-trained
technician, this guide may be used to aid in the process of installation when a
technician is not available. Many of the parts described herein are very heavy;
care and proper equipment should be used to put them in place. All of the parts
contain either carefully aligned or sensitive electronic assemblies. Take extreme
care not to damage or jar the systems.
Required Parts
- 3030 Digitizer Head
- LN Platform
- Power Supply
- M6 bolts (2)
- SCSI Interface with power adapter
- Cables:
- Power Supply to main AC
- LN Motor Harness to Power Supply (attached to platform)
- Digitizer Head Harness to Power Supply
- SCSI data to Power Supply
- SCSI motion to Power Supply
REQUIRED TOOLS
- M6 hex wrench
- Small flat screwdriver
INSTRUCTIONS
- Unstrap 3030 Digitizer shipping box and set it carefully aside or move it
to the setup location.
- Carefully move all other boxes to the setup location.
- Unbolt the LN Platform/Table assembly from the crate bottom and move to
the setup area.
- Unpack and mount 3030 Digitizer Head.
NOTE: This is a very sensitive piece of equipment. Take great care in
all procedures. Do not touch mirrors or their alignment systems.
- Remove 3030 Digitizer Head from box and place near LN Platform.
- Locate four (4) M6 bolts for securing the head.
- Lift the 3030 Digitizer Head into position on the mounting bracket, using
the alignment pins. Be sure the digitizer is properly oriented.
If you are facing the front of the digitizer, the motor should be at the
left end of the platform.
- From underneath the bracket, thread bolts lightly to hold head in place.
- Secure bolts (If using torque wrench: M6-175cm x kgs).
- Place power supply nearby.
- Connect cables.
- Connect Digitizer Harness from Digitizer Head to the back of the Power
Supply (Power and Camera Data).
- Connect Platform Cable Assembly to the back of the Power Supply
(Power and Encoder).
- If this is an RGB model, attach the fluorescent light assembly to the
fasteners on the front of the Digitizer Head, place the power box on top of
the Digitizer Head and connect the cable to the top plug at the back of the
Digitizer Head.
- Verify voltage setting on the Power Supply, then connect Power Supply to
Main AC Power.

- Refer to the External SCSI Device Installation Guide for details on external
SCSI interface installation.
- Have the System Administrator shut down the IRIS system before connecting
the SCSI interface.
- Connect the Cyberware SCSI Interface to the IRIS' SCSI port or to another
external SCSI device in the chain. Be sure to terminate the end of the SCSI chain.
- Connect the A/C power adapter for the SCSI device to an A/C outlet.
- Set the SCSI address dial on the back of the SCSI interface to an available SCSI
address.
- Connect the Camera Data cable from the SCSI Interface to the front of the Power
Supply.
- Connect the Motion Control cable from the SCSI Interface to the front of the Power
Supply.
- Re-boot your IRIS system to recognize the new SCSI device.
- At a UNIX prompt, verify that the scanner has been added to the
hardware inventory.
You should see a line in the hardware inventory similar to the
one below:
| Scanner: unit 5 on SCSI controller 1 |
- Have the System Administrator install the Cyberware software on the
workstation according to the Software
Installation instructions.
- Verify proper installation of the Digitizer and Platform.
- Turn the Power Supply on using the switch on the front of the box. Be sure the
power light is ON on the front panel of the Power Supply and that the digitizer power
light is visible through the aperture on the side panel of the Digitizer Head.
- If this is an RGB model, turn on the fluorescent light assembly.
- Begin by verifying power and communication between the Digitizer
Head and the Host Computer using the view command in EchoTk.
- Launch EchoTk.
![[EchoTk Main Control Panel]](../images/MCP.gif) |
| EchoTk |
|
- In the EchoTk window, launch the Monitor Mode by selecting
Monitor from the Scanner menu.
![[EchoTk Scanner Menu]](../images/ScannerMenu.gif) |
| EchoTk |
|
The Monitor command will turn on the laser. Move your hand in
front of the digitizer to verify the beam is on.
Note: Avoid looking directly into the laser light when the
platform is not in motion.
The laser will remain on for 30 seconds while in Monitor Mode. To
turn the laser on after the 30 second time limit, press
"n", then "l" while the mouse cursor is within
the Monitor Window.
- Choose Exit from the pop-up menu
to leave Monitor Mode.
- Verify the motion of the platform and check for cable obstructions.
- Home the motion system by selecting Home from the
Scanner menu.
This command will cause the platform to begin a movement cycle to
find its "home" position. The digitizer head will move down to
the left end of the platform and then back to the middle (home
position). Observe cables and listen for any adverse motor noises.
- Try a scanning cylindrically and/or linearly.
- In EchoTk, setup the digitizer for a scan by setting the
following options:
- For linear platforms:
| Motion: | Linear |
| Width: | 100mm |
| Resolution: | Medium or .5 mm |
- For cylindrical platforms:
| Motion: | Cylindrical |
| Arc: | 180° |
| Resolution: | Medium or .5° |
- Place an object in front of the scanner.
- Scan the object.
- Display and inspect the image by pressing the Display
button in the EchoTk window.
- If problems occur, follow instructions in the error message, and
go over this checklist:
- Is the SCSI interface plugged in?
- Is the Power Supply's power switch on?
- Is a building breaker thrown? (plug in another item to test
the outlet)
- Are the cables securely connected between digitizer and power
supply?
- Does the power light show through the aperture on the side of
the digitizer head?
- Is the Emergency Stop Button engaged?
- Be sure the motion file you selected exists. At the EchoTk
prompt, type:
| echotk > get ECHO_MOTION_SOURCE |
- Place the dust cover over the digitizer aperture when the system is
not in use.
THE DIGITIZER IS NOW READY FOR USE.
