The Display Environment consists of the Echo Help, Echo Wireframe, and Echo Render windows, and is used to view any object that was scanned in Echo.
For a complete description of all of the options and menu selections in the Display Environment, please consult the Command Descriptions Section of this User Guide.
|
The Echo Help Window displays any information pertinent to the opertation the user is carrying out. Also, this window provides feedback on the cursor position and any measurements.
|
A wireframe view of the scanned object appears in this window. The primary function of the Echo Wireframe Window is to provide a window to allow quick and intuitive navigation. The scanned object can be zoomed, rotated, or panned in this window.
|
To activate the Echo Wireframe Menu, depress Button 3 (right mouse button). In this menu, you will find the navigational commands required to ensure a complete and accurate orientation of any object that you scan.
Please note that upon completion of the desired reorientation, you must select Redraw from the Echo Render window pop-up menu. Below are the most commonly used menu selections and their functions.

After you select this item, move the mouse up/down or left/right to rotate the
object. Click any mouse button to exit the Rotate Mode.

Echo Render
The Echo Render window is where the object is displayed in a shaded view. The user can select from several display modes for a better representation of the object.
The Echo Render window also provides access to basic editing and measurement functions.
|
To activate the Echo Render menu, depress Button 3 (right mouse button). In this menu, you will find the commands needed to accurately display an object, edit the range data, and take measurements. Below are the most commonly used menu selections and their functions.
|
Redraw:
Select this menu item to update the view in the Echo Render Window. This
is a necessary step after any change in the Echo Wireframe Window.
Meter Points:
This choice has two (2) modes, measurement and editing:
Surface Tools:
This selection will present the user with the main editing functions in
Echo. This item allows you to change the Selection Cursor size, as well
as access the "Select None," "Select Region," and
"Select Inverse" functions. You can also choose to void selected data
points using the selections in this menu.
View Window
The View window allows the user to adjust the threshold of light on the CCD that is registered as a valid data point. To facilitate the most accurate setting of the threshold, or sensitivity, the View window provides the user with several methods of viewing the laser stripe in real-time, as well as some rudimentary motion commands.
|
The View Menu provides access to the different viewing modes, and to commands that can reorient the motion platform to allow the user to view the object from different angles and positions.
|
The Profile mode displays a real time view of the laser stripe, as seen by the
CCD. This view is displayed with the individual sample points connected so that
a continuous line is shown. This is the default display method, and is most
useful for setting the sensitivity.
Dots
As in Profile mode, the laser stripe is drawn in real time. However, only the
individual data points are drawn in the View window, and they are not connected.
This view is the most accurate with regards to the actual data that is
being sensed by the CCD.
Colors
The Colors mode will display a view of the colors being sensed by the
color-camera CCD in real time.
Luminance
When the Luminance mode is enabled, a display of the luminance values for each
data point is presented. This mode is especially useful to ensure that the
CCD is not oversaturated.
Laser On
This menu selection turns the laser on, if it has gone off. If the laser turns
off, it is most likely due to the 30-second time limit that is coded into our
scanners for safety purposes.
Laser Off
The Laser Off selection will turn the laser off, if it is currently on.
Hold
The menu selection, Hold, simply freezes the display in the View window and it
will not be updated until one of the other modes (Profile, Dots, Colors, or
Luminance) is selected.
Scripts
The Scripts selection opens a sub-menu with choices for moving the rotary platform to obtain views from several angles. This capability ensures that the user has the proper sensitivity setting.
There are four choices in the sub-menu;
Turn 0, Turn 90, Turn 180, and Turn 270. The degree
value is in absolute terms, so 0 degrees is always the home position,
90 is 90° degrees from 0° in a clockwise fashion, etc.
Quit
This menu item will exit the View Mode. Any sensitivity level changes that the
user has specified will be saved automatically.
Shell Window
The Shell window provides the user with the power to access the UNIX environment from within Echo. The user can also issue specific Echo commands using the is command-line interface. For a more complete description of the Echo commands, please consult the Advanced Usage Section of this User Guide.
