Proper preparation before scanning helps to ensure a good image. Take the time
to choose the best placement and surface treatment of the subject.
Preparing the Subject
Objects or parts of objects may be light-reflective or light-absorbent, which is difficult to scan. If you need to include data on shiny surfaces, you will need to have cornstarch or tempera paint to dull the troublesome area, and a paintbrush or cotton swab to apply it. Tempera paint and a paintbrush are included with every digitizer.
Following are some of the recommendations for scanning a human subject:
Center the object on the subject platform. Keep in mind that the scanner can only see a maximum of 2 meters in height × 1.2 meters diametrically (79 inches × 47 inches).
The subject should always face one of the two vertical towers with legs slightly apart, and with his/her arms at an angle to the body. It is helpful if the subject stands facing forward, with his/her chin up and eyes looking straight ahead. The subject's shoulders should be relaxed with his/her palms facing the thighs, wrists straight, with fingers together.
